    What is a Consultant?

A consultant is a self-employed professional providing services to the public for a fee, while remaining independent of any business which may provide a conflict of interest with the client. A consulting forester works with the landowner and wood using industry to provide management assistance in both the planning and application levels to best meet the landowners goals. A forester serves as a liaison between the landowner and the wood using industry.

Why do I need a Consulting Forester?

In 1997, Clark Forestry Consulting was hired to conduct a timber sale for a retired engineer who had received an unsolicited offer of $70,000 from a local timber buyer. The buyer-logger proposed to clear-cut the engineer's 200 acre forest. Clark Forestry Consulting selectively marked the timber, designating trees not to be cut. We retained 40 percent of the trees and preserved the land's aesthetic value. Clark Forestry Consulting conducted a competitive, sealed-bid, lump-sum offering of the timber, and obtained a top offer of $249,000 !

What could you do with an extra $179,000?!

Granted this is an extreme example. However studies show that foresters conducting sealed bid sales average 27% higher returns.
